Be it our life journey, a special experience, or wisdom we’ve gained, we each have a unique story to tell. Sharing our stories can:

  • preserve memories of our lives
  • offer wisdom and guidance to others
  • heal wounds
  • entertain
  • help us understand ourselves better
  • give us a greater understanding of others
  • celebrate the growth and accomplishments of ourselves and others
  • leave a history of our lives or our family for future generations

Sharing our stories not only provides many benefits for us personally, but potentially can serve and impact the lives of others.

Writing Hearts is a Maryland-based organization that guides people with writing their stories. Typically, the program leaders meet with a group, such as senior center members, teens, members of faith-based organizations, and individuals sharing special interests. No writing experience is necessary. Depending on the focus of the writing, a specific number of sessions are planned in which the group meets and is guided through the process of putting their thoughts on paper. Participants are given writing assignments to complete independently between sessions. Writing Hearts leaders assist with organizing and editing the work. If desired, the leaders can handle the process of placing individual life histories or group stories into a book format.

Writing Hearts is pleased to be the recipient of a grant from Maryland Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and the NEH Sustaining Humanities through the American Rescue Plan (SHARP) initiative.

Writing Hearts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Your donations are welcomed and tax deductible.
